Divest from Policing. Invest in Community.

Sexual Assault Voices of Edmonton stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter Edmonton in their demand for Edmonton to invest in community and divest from policing. In addition to the deep roots of white supremacy and history of upholding systems of oppression in policing, we know that policing practices fail to bring justice for survivor-victims and often even increase trauma symptoms.  Together with survivor-victims and our community, we are building a vision of a future without sexualized violence, and an anti-racist, survivor-victim-centric violence response system that can get us there.

We’re developing resources and tools to help advocate for and imagine what the future without policing could look like. Read our Manifesto to learn about our vision, explore stories of community safety in our Zine, check out the Resources section to learn more about police abolition, and visit the YEG Police Violence Archive to learn what harms policing causes in our communities.
